Per Miguel Soto's findagrave web site:
Following Miguel's death, Ervin G. Taber was appointed the legal guardian of 9-year-old Jose Lorenzo Soto y Tapia on January 19, 1900, and filed for a Civil War minor's pension on January 30, receiving application No. 712,729.
Then, on June 26, 1903, Agustín Ruíz and Benedita (Soto?) de Ruíz of Orange County were appointed as José's legal guardians. Benedita was Miguel Soto's niece.
